Every figure here says where it came from
In Hillsdale, MI and across the county: the numbers we have, where each one came from, and a plain list of the ones we refuse to invent.
Almost nobody competing for searches in Hillsdale County, Michigan publishes a price at all. The ones who do rarely say where the figure came from. Everything below carries its source.

Read the label on these numbers
They are Michigan-wide figures from a contractor's published pricing guide, not Hillsdale County quotes. We are not going to relabel them as local. They get replaced with local numbers the moment there are local quotes to publish. If a site shows you a precise price for your town with no source attached, that price came from the same kind of statewide guide with the label taken off.
What Your Address Can Claim in 2026
This is where a Hillsdale County quote genuinely differs from the rest of the state, and it is decided by a utility map rather than by the equipment.

A Hillsdale city address is generally eligible for none of the Consumers rows
Inside the city limits, electricity comes from the Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities — a municipal utility with 6,131 customers — so those homes are not Consumers electric customers, and their efficiency programme runs through Efficiency Smart. Natural gas in Hillsdale and Coldwater comes from Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation, not Consumers, so the gas rows do not apply either. Move a few minutes out into the townships and the electric side reopens. See heating and cooling in Hillsdale, MI.
Two more that carry no published figure. MiHER, the Michigan Home Energy Rebates programme through EGLE, is live in two tracks and lets you use a prequalified contractor without paying the covered amount up front — but there is no official per-measure table and it is subject to funding availability, so we quote nothing. Michigan Saves financing runs only through an authorised contractor, with the rate and term set by the partner lender; anyone quoting "the Michigan Saves rate" as a single number is guessing. See financing.
What We Deliberately Do Not Publish
A pricing page that quotes everything is a pricing page that is making things up. Here is the list, and the reason is the same for all of them — no sourced figure exists that we can stand behind:
- Furnace repair prices. No sourced local or statewide figure.
- Boiler repair or replacement. Same.
- Ductless equipment, ductwork, water heaters. Same.
- Propane per gallon, and delivery cost. An unregulated market with no published local tariff. Any single county figure is a guess.
- Oil tank removal and gas piping runs on a conversion. They vary by property.
- Payback periods. They need a fuel price we do not have.
Those will get published as and when there are real quotes behind them, with the source attached like everything else.
Reading an HVAC Quote in This County
- Check which rebate has been deducted, and whether you qualify. The single most common error here is a Consumers rebate applied to an address Consumers does not supply.
- Check no federal credit is baked in. 25C and 25D are gone for 2026.
- Ask what the sizing was based on. ACCA Manual J for the load, Manual S for selection. Hillsdale County is zone 5A with 6,469.8 heating degree days a year.
- Ask for ductwork to be a separate line. In a county where 26.7 percent of housing predates 1940, the duct system is often the real constraint. See ductwork.
- Check the licence classifications against LARA's public lookup. HVAC equipment, hydronic heating, fuel gas piping and LP distribution piping are separate classifications.

HVAC Pricing FAQ
What does a furnace cost in Hillsdale County, MI?
Installed, in Michigan in 2026: roughly 3,200 to 5,500 dollars for a standard-efficiency 80 percent AFUE single-stage furnace, 4,500 to 7,200 for a mid-efficiency 92 to 95 percent AFUE two-stage, and 6,000 to 9,500 or more for a high-efficiency 96 to 98 percent AFUE modulating unit. That includes the unit, installation by licensed technicians, permits, basic ductwork connections and removal of the old equipment. Installation labour alone typically runs 1,500 to 3,500. These are Michigan-wide ranges from a published contractor guide — not Hillsdale County quotes — and we label them that way rather than presenting them as local.
Why will you not just tell me the price for my town?
Because we do not have one that is sourced, and a precise-looking number we made up would be worse than no number. What we have is a statewide range from a published contractor guide, and we show it with that label attached. If another site gives you an exact figure for your town without saying where it came from, it almost certainly came from the same kind of statewide guide — with the label removed.
What prices do you deliberately not publish?
Furnace repair, boiler repair and boiler replacement, ductless equipment, ductwork, propane per gallon, delivery costs, oil tank removal, and payback periods on a conversion. In every case the reason is the same: we have no sourced figure, local or statewide, and propane in particular is an unregulated market with no published local tariff. A single county figure for propane would be a guess dressed as a fact.
How much can rebates actually take off the price in 2026?
It depends entirely on who bills you. Consumers Energy gas customers can get $100 for a 95 to 96.99 percent AFUE furnace, $300 for 97 percent and above, and $65 for a tune-up. Consumers electric customers can get $300 for an air-source heat pump at 15.2+ SEER2, $350 for a ductless mini-split, $200 or $300 for ground-source, $150 or $300 for central air, $65 for an AC tune-up between 1 April and 30 September, and $50 or $100 for a smart thermostat. Propane households get none of those but can claim MiPropane at $250 per unit. And a house inside the Hillsdale city limits is generally eligible for no Consumers rebate at all, because Consumers supplies neither its gas nor its electricity.
Is the $2,000 federal tax credit still part of the price?
No. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under section 25C applies only to property placed in service before 31 December 2025, and the Residential Clean Energy Credit under section 25D, which covered geothermal, is likewise unavailable after that date, per the IRS. Several sites competing for searches in this county still show it. A 2026 quote built around a $2,000 federal credit is short by $2,000, and that is a large fraction of a standard-efficiency furnace.

Tell us the job and the town. What comes back will be itemised, and anything we cannot price from a source will be marked as needing a site visit rather than guessed at.
There is no phone number published on this site yet, so requests come in through this form — we reply by email or call you back on the number you give. That is also why the phone field is required rather than optional.
