HVAC Financing in Hillsdale, MI
Nobody can quote you "the Michigan Saves rate" — including us
In Hillsdale, MI and across the county: the two real routes, how each one actually works, and why we will not print an interest rate.
Financing in Hillsdale County, Michigan runs through the same statewide programmes as everywhere else. What is local is the timing — more than half the heating season's demand arrives in three months, and an emergency replacement is one you cannot shop.
Request service
- Via contractor the only route into Michigan Saves. Homeowners cannot apply directly Michigan Saves
- $0 up front on the covered amount under MiHER, using a prequalified contractor Michigan EGLE
- $0 from the federal 25C credit in 2026, whatever a finance plan assumes IRS
Michigan Saves, and What It Actually Is
Michigan Saves is a nonprofit green bank. Two things about how it works decide everything else:
- You reach it through an authorised contractor, not directly. If the contractor is not authorised, this route is not available on that job.
- The loans are held by partner credit unions and banks, not by Michigan Saves itself. So the rate and the term come from whichever lender ends up holding yours.
Which is why we publish no APR
Terms vary by lender and change over time. There is no single "Michigan Saves rate" to quote, and printing one would give you a number to plan around that we cannot stand behind. Ask the contractor which lender their paperwork goes to, then get the rate and term in writing from that lender before you commit.
MiHER — the One With No Up-Front Cost
The Michigan Home Energy Rebates programme, run by EGLE, is live in two tracks:
- Home Efficiency Rebates — whole-home, scaled to measured savings.
- Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates — heat pumps and similar equipment, for households at or below 150 percent of Area Median Income.
You choose a prequalified contractor and do not pay the covered amount up front, which is a materially different proposition from a rebate you claim back afterwards.
We do not quote a figure per measure. There is no official per-measure table, and the programme is subject to funding availability — one regional district was temporarily paused for funding capacity. Check the position with EGLE before building a plan around it.
Take the Rebates Off Before You Finance the Rest
Financing a number that should have been smaller is the avoidable mistake. Before agreeing an amount, establish which of these your address can actually claim:
- MiPropane, $250 per unit — ENERGY STAR propane furnace, boiler or water heater, replacing electric or fuel oil equipment, not paired with a heat pump. Per unit, so two appliances is two claims.
- Consumers Energy 2026 measures — but only if Consumers genuinely supplies that fuel to your address. Inside the City of Hillsdale it supplies neither the gas nor the electricity.
- Efficiency Smart for Hillsdale BPU electric customers.
And nothing federal
25C applies only to property placed in service before 31 December 2025, and 25D is likewise unavailable after that date, per the IRS. If a finance plan assumes a $2,000 federal credit arriving, it is short by $2,000. Full rebate table on what things cost.
The Timing Risk Is the Local Part
Financing decisions get made under time pressure, and here the pressure is seasonal. A furnace that fails in January is bought in a day, from whoever can come; the same furnace replaced in September is bought over a fortnight with two or three quotes compared and the paperwork done calmly. That difference is usually worth more than any rate.
Which means a marginal system fails inside a narrow window, and an emergency replacement is one where you take the first available quote rather than the third. The financing consequence is straightforward: if the equipment is near the end of its life, dealing with it in a month when you still have time is worth more than any rate difference. See furnace tune-ups for why September is the month that matters.

HVAC Financing FAQ
What is Michigan Saves and how do I use it?
Michigan Saves is a nonprofit green bank. Homeowners cannot go to it directly — financing is accessed through an authorised contractor, and the loans themselves are held by partner credit unions and banks rather than by Michigan Saves. That structure has one important consequence: the rate and the term are set by whichever lender ends up holding your loan, so they vary. Anyone quoting you "the Michigan Saves rate" as a single number is guessing, and we are not going to publish one.
Why will you not tell me the interest rate?
Because there is no single rate to tell you. The loans sit with partner credit unions and banks, terms vary by lender, and they change. Publishing a specific APR as though it were fixed would be exactly the kind of authoritative-sounding invention this site avoids — and it would be the number people planned around. Ask the contractor which lender their Michigan Saves paperwork goes to, and get the rate and term in writing from that lender.
Is there a programme that means I do not pay up front?
MiHER — the Michigan Home Energy Rebates programme run by EGLE — works that way. There are two tracks: Home Efficiency Rebates, which scale with measured whole-home savings, and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates for heat pumps and similar equipment, for households at or below 150 percent of Area Median Income. You choose a prequalified contractor and do not pay the covered amount up front. We are not going to quote a figure per measure, because there is no official per-measure table and the programme is subject to funding availability — one regional district was temporarily paused for funding capacity. Check with EGLE.
Should I finance or wait and save?
That is your decision and it depends on things we cannot see. What we can tell you is the seasonal shape of the risk: December, January and February carry about 53 percent of the year’s heating degree days in this county, with a January mean minimum of 17.5°F. A furnace that is marginal in September becomes an emergency in January, and emergency replacement removes your ability to shop the quote. If the equipment is at the end of its life, the cheapest month to deal with it is one where you have time.
Does the federal tax credit help with the cost?
Not in 2026. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under section 25C applies only to property placed in service before 31 December 2025, and the Residential Clean Energy Credit under section 25D is likewise unavailable after that date, per the IRS. Several sites competing for searches in this county still show a $2,000 federal credit in their pricing. If a finance plan has been built assuming that money arrives, the plan is short by $2,000.
Ask About Paying for the Work
Tell us what the job is and roughly what timeframe you are working to. If it can wait until you have three quotes, it is worth waiting.
There is no phone number published on this site yet, so requests come in through this form — we reply by email or call you back on the number you give. That is also why the phone field is required rather than optional.
